Apprentice Plant Fitter

Summary

ADP Group are a ground investigation contractor, specialising in the provision of specialist operated plant to ground investigation contractors and consultancies throughout the UK.

A subsidiary of ADP Group, Tutex Ltd, supply equipment ranging from CompAir compressors through to Brian James Trailers, and also import specialist vacuum and suction excavation equipment from the USA and Canada. Tutex also operate a growing fleet of self-operated hire equipment.

ADP Group (and Tutex) have a vacancy for a plant/mechanical engineering apprentice to join our service team, working directly under the supervision of our service manager.

The Role & Requirements

The successful candidate will be a school or college leaver, with at least entry level 3, or 4 GCSE grades E including Maths and English (or equivalent). All applicants will be required to pass initial assessments in Maths and English as part of the college course.

The candidate will have a strong background in either plant or agricultural machinery, or be able to demonstrate a keen interest in mechanical engineering and the willingness to learn.

From September 2018 the successful candidate will be enrolled on to an apprenticeship at Wiltshire College Lackham, where the candidate will study initially for an NVQ Level 2 in Plant Machinery Maintenance and Engineering, and eventually an NVQ Level 3 in the same subject. Studies will be on a block release basis and conducted over a 3-4 year programme.

Further training throughout the successful candidates career, will include technician courses from manufacturers such as CompAir compressors, Vector/Vaccon vacuum excavators, Fraste & Comacchio drilling rigs.

The role will see the successful candidate work from our South Gloucestershire head office, providing reactive and proactive maintenance to our fleet of vehicles and equipment, as well as assisting both our own and our customers’ fleets of equipment throughout the UK.

The successful candidate will relish the opportunity to travel throughout the UK, often at short notice and regularly at unsociable hours. Although regular staying away will not be a large factor, there will be occasional requirements to attend breakdowns that require a night away.

ADP Group owned plant and equipment includes, but is not limited to vans and commercial vehicles from Iveco, Renault, Citroen, Ford & Mercedes, capital plant from CompAir, Comacchio, Fraste, Putzmeister, Vector & Vaccon.

Most plant machinery operated by the business, is a variation of diesel powered hydraulic systems.

A full, clean driving licence is preferable, however we will also be prepared to accept that the right candidate may be working towards this at the time of applying/joining our team. We are situated away from any main public transport routes, and as such your own transport will be a prerequisite.

The position will involve commuting to our South Gloucestershire head office. The successful candidate will reside within a 45 minute commute.

The Reward

The opportunity to travel the country, working from our modern and purpose built premises in the idyllic South Gloucestershire countryside, or supporting equipment onsite throughout the UK in a fully fitted mobile support van, initially under the full time supervision of our service manager and latterly under your own supervision as competence and experience grows.

The opportunity to gain an NVQ Level 2 (https://webapp.wiltshire.ac.uk/coursestng/Infosheet/8449) and Level 3 (https://webapp.wiltshire.ac.uk/coursestng/Infosheet/8411) in Land/Construction/Plant Machinery Maintenance and Repair. All college studies will be fully funded along with any other necessary training.

The successful candidate will receive full pay during time spent at college or during training.

A basic salary covering the first 9 hours of any working day, in the region of £12,000-£13,000 dependent on experience and qualification, plus a good overtime rate for any time worked after 9 hours on a daily basis. Overtime also payable for any weekend hours worked as required.

28 days paid holiday, a company pension scheme and overnight sustenance for any time spent away from home. Post successful completion of the full apprenticeship, the successful candidate can expect to earn £24,000-£28,000 plus over time and benefits including a company vehicle.

Please note that the successful candidate will reside close to ADP Group’s South Gloucestershire Head Office, as daily commuting is regularly required.

The expectation is that the successful candidate will live within 45 mins commuting distance, please note that you are unlikely to be considered for the role if you do not meet this criteria.

Assistant Driller/Second Man

ADP Group have a position for an assistant driller/second man/site labourer.

The Role

The successful candidate will have relevant experience in a similar role within the industry, or will have good experience working as a site labourer or general ground worker.

The position would involve working throughout the UK on various sites, ranging from Petroleum retail sites, through to refineries, factories, brownfield sites, construction sites and even back gardens!

Work includes geo-environmental drilling, geotechnical boreholes, environmental sampling, rotary open hole drilling, rotary coring, GSHP and water borehole drilling. The successful applicant will be working as an assistant to a lead operator or driller on numerous items of plant and equipment.

The Requirements

The willingness to work hard, in all weather conditions, often on testing sites and always whilst working as part of a team.

A good understanding and experience of the above techniques is preferred, however full training will be provided.

A full, clean driving licence is essential.

Preferable but not essential is SPA/PIA, NG PERSONS/BESC, CSCS and C/C1 + E or B+E driving licences.

Position would involve commuting to our South Glos head office, however work will often involve staying away 4 nights/week with occasional weekend working.

Package includes a very competitive salary (£18,000 – £20,000) and great overtime rates payable after the first 9 hours of each shift; also included is a generous “staying away” allowance to take care of living expenses whilst away from home.

Weekend and night shifts are available by separate negotiation and pay up to 3 times the standard salary.
