Assistant driller / second man
The successful candidate will ideally have relevant experience in a similar role within the drilling or ground investigation industry. At the very least, the successful candidate will demonstrate experience working as part of a team, in a manual capacity, outside and in all weathers.
The position would involve working throughout the UK on various sites, ranging from petroleum retail sites, through to refineries, factories, brownfield sites, construction sites, rail and road infrastructure, even back gardens!
Work includes geo-environmental drilling, geotechnical boreholes, environmental monitoring/drilling, ground source heating and water borehole drilling.
The successful applicant will be working as an assistant to a lead operator or driller on numerous items of plant and equipment.
The willingness to work hard, in all weather conditions, often on testing sites and always whilst working as part of a team. A good understanding and experience of the above techniques is preferred, however full training will be provided. A full, clean driving licence is essential.
Preferable but not essential is SPA/PIA, NG PERSONS/BESC, CSCS, PTS and C/C1 + E or B+E driving licences.
The position would involve commuting to our South Glos head office (Wickwar), however work will often involve staying away 4 nights/week with occasional weekend working. The successful candidate will be expected to work nationwide, staying away from home in lodgings provided by the employer, often all week.
The ability to pass/provide a negative drugs screening is essential. Pre-employment drugs testing will be carried out, as will random and continual tests.

The package includes a very competitive basic salary (£21,000 – £23,000) and great overtime rates payable after the first 9 hours of each shift; also included is a generous “staying away” allowance to take care of living expenses whilst away from home.
Indicative package worth between £22,000 – £27,000 depending on hours worked, plus overnight sustenance. Weekend and night shifts are often available but not essential, and pay up to 3 times the standard salary.
Please note that the successful candidate will reside close to ADP Group’s South Gloucestershire Head Office, as daily commuting is regularly required.
The expectation is that the successful candidate will live within 1 hour commuting distance, please note that you are unlikely to be considered for the role if you do not meet this criteria.
