The Comacchio MC/GEO405HT Multipurpose Rotary Drilling Rigs.
The MC & GEO405HT’s are compact, yet very powerful and hugely capable rotary rigs, equally as capable of both SI work, Geobor-S wireline coring or open hole drilling to depths in the order of 150m bgl.
The MC & GEO405HT rotary drilling rigs are transported to site with our in house LGV transport truck, this truck also carries all in hole equipment as well as auxiliary equipment such as compressors and mud recycling equipment – allowing us to keep our overheads low and pass the savings on to you, the client. The rig is supported by an Iveco 7ton van.
With a rotary head capable of low speed, high torque; as well as high speed with less torque, the Comacchio MC/GEO405HT is a formidable force capable of progressing boreholes in any geology to depths in excess of 150m using either DTH Hammer, rock roller, drag or PCD bits.. or to diameters of 300mm using hollow and solid stem augers.
Making it more specific to the geotechnical industry, ADP Group’s GEO405HT variant is also fitted with a rig mounted SPT hammer, not only making the process more efficient but also eliminating the requirement to lift the hammer manually – reducing manual handling onsite!
Other systems include overburden casing and wireline coring. Flushing mediums include mud/water re-circulation via the on board 200l/min mud pump, or air flush via an auxiliary compressor.

Dynamic Windowless Sampling
Windowless sampling barrels between 86mm and 146mm diameter contain plastic liners to retain soil samples. Liners are removed from sample barrels after drilling. The use of a plastic liner allows for excellent presentation of high quality samples.
Hollow/Solid Stem Auguring (Fully guarded)
The rotary drive heads on our rigs can be set to a low speed high torque setting to allow for both hollow and solid stem auguring in 6”, 8”, 10” & 12” diameters to depths of 30m bgl.
Rotary Open Hole Drilling (fully guarded)
Down the hole hammer (DTHH), tri-cone rock roller, drag and PDC bits can be used for rotary open hole drilling.
DTHH is used with air flush for open hole drilling in rock and hard strata. Tricone,
drag and PCD bits can be operated with air, air mist or water flush.
Open boreholes can be formed to depths in the order of 150m bgl.
Conventional Rotary Coring (Fully guarded)
Thin wall double tube core barrels incorporating a plastic liner are used to retrieve cores up to 123mm diameter. The rigs can use water or air flush as required. The ability of our rigs to soil sample and rotary core allows for borehole progression in most ground conditions to depths in the order of 150m.
Wireline Coring (Fully guarded)
Wireline coring can be carried out with the use of Geobor-S. Wireline cored boreholes can be formed to depths in excess of 100m, with fantastic core recovery in unbeatable speeds!
In-Situ Geotechnical Testing (all hammers calibrated annually)
Standard Penetration Testing, weight of 63.5kgs is dropped over a calibrated distance of 760mm, the number of blows taken to drive the sampler over a set distance is recorded. ADP Group’s GEO405HT’s have rig mounted, manual handling reducing SPT hammers.
Undisturbed Sampling (U100, UT100, U70)
Undisturbed samples with either thin walled (class 1) or standard undisturbed sample barrels can be taken with the rig.
Overburden Casing System (Fully guarded)
Overburden casing systems can be utilised where overburden or unconsolidated sands/gravels can become a problem, the Symmetrix casing system is available in an OD of 168mm, providing an ID of 132mm through the ring bit.
Air Flush – Use of “stuffing box” to allow for a clean site
Mud Flush – Use of a Mud Puppy MP170-2sc mud recycling system in order to maintain a clean and tidy site
